Steven Subotnick
Hairyman
After growing up in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles, Steven Subotnick went to college where he studied studio art, filmmaking, and animation. He has been making independent animations since 1985, and has received awards, grants and residencies for his work. He has worked as an animator, director, illustrator, and has taught animation at Rhode Island School of Design, Harvard University, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. A few years ago, he wrote a book for Focal Press about making independent animation production using digital tools. He is currently working on a new independent animation based on a lullaby, and designing graphics and animation for a series of educational CD-ROMs.

This month we're showing Steven Subotnick's film 'Hairyman,' and we took the opportunity to talk to him about his experience as an educator and his thoughts on the road ahead for animation, technology, and academic institutions. READ ON
