Stacey Steers
Phantom Canyon
Stacey Steers is an animator and director living in Colorado . Her work explores the elemental process by which human beings construct meaning from their experience. She is interested in creative engagement with reality through the medium of memory, both as a social force involving shared symbols and artifacts, and as an investigation of her own personal experience. She spends years creating handmade artwork for each film, typically 8 hand-painted drawings for collages for every second in her animation.

Phantom Canyon was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007, the New Directors, New Films Festival in New York , and won prizes at the Black Maria Film Festival, the Humboldt International Film Festival, and the Ann Arbor Film Festival. Steers is a recipient of an AFI Independent Filmmaker's Grant, and has been an artist fellow at Harvard University , the MacDowell Colony, and the Sacatar Foundation.
