Harvard Square’s T station is a bottleneck of human traffic. RE:actions translates daily exchanges at this hub into an animated performance cycle. Following the movements of passers-by, the artist tracks and transforms them into ephemeral studies of movement. Cameras capture the constant motion in real time, which is then processed by computer and translated like weather patterns visualized in real and recorded time. The installation experiments with folding live motion into architectural surroundings—drawing a kinetic history of Harvard Square. Contrasting times of the day reveal different light, paths, and degrees of congestion, forming a space where the daily activity of commuting is pictured as a dance in which pedestrians become performers.
