David Claerbout was born in Belgium in 1969, and his recent solo exhibitions include: Galerie Yvon Lambert, New York; Centro de Arte Contemporanea de Galicia, Santiago di Compostela, Spain, 2003; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2003; and Kunstverein Hannover, Hannover, Germany, 2002.  Among recent group exhibitions in which his work has been included are: War (what is it good for?) , Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Attack! Art and War in the Time of the Media , Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Austria, Body Matters , Museet for Samtidskunst, Oslo, Norway; and Outlook, Athens, Greece, and ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany, 2003.

Through a carefully selected and arranged composition of photographed elements, Claerbout subtly twists perceptual habits by creating unexpected epiphanies between observation, visual memory and optical illusion.
